2025 marks the 18th anniversary of Adept Consulting Engineers. Formed in 2007, Adept has grown to employ more than seventy engineers, technicians and support staff across bases in Leeds, London, Manchester and Sheffield. Since 2007, the business has delivered around 4,000 projects with a total project value approaching £3.5 billion.

2007-2011

Established in 2007 by business partners, Erol Erturan, Matthew Ramsden and Richard Parker, we quickly secured a commission for a £12m office park development. This enabled us to recruit the first members of our new team, growing to seven by the end of our first year. Since those very early days, we have invested in training and skills and have fostered a successful apprenticeship programme to nurture future talent. Since 2007 we have supported 18 apprentices, and are proud to have no fewer than ten former apprentices now engaged as senior engineers and associates.

In addition to our people, investment in technology has been another key factor driving our growth. In 2008, we took a leap of faith and started using Revit and Civil 3D. We didn’t know the BIM acronym then; it was just advanced 3D modelling. Whilst very few business were using the technology, we could see the potential benefits to efficiency and productivity and the distinct advantage it held for our fledgling company. There were many challenges at first, with only a basic help system and just a small community of users. However, our early commitment paid off as BIM has now become an essential tool across all design teams.

Next has been one of our most loyal clients since the very beginning, with our largest scheme to date a £90m facility of almost 1 million square feet of warehousing and logistics space, located in South Elmsall, Leeds.

In 2011, Managing Director, Erol Erturan, was selected to represent Adept as a participant on the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses UK programme in Yorkshire, a scheme which provides high-quality, practical education and business support to leaders of high-growth small businesses.

2012 – 2017

In 2013 an enthusiastic team completed the 24-mile Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, raising over £1000 for charity. Since then, our people have thrown themselves into tough mudders and triathalons, planted trees and helped restore footpaths on Ilkley Moor, baked cakes and made up food parcels, and even kayaked, in support of many local and national charities close to our hearts and those of our clients.

Also, in 2014 we expanded into new premises within Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley, establishing our new head office in this historic location on the outskirts of Leeds.

In 2015 we were one of the first organisations in the UK to achieve BIM Level 2 Certification and one of the first companies to sign up to the UK Engineers Declare Climate and Biodiversity Emergency petition the same year, undertaking a further commitment to achieve Net-Zero operational status by 2020.

Also in 2015, Adept played a key role in the refurbishment of the Grade 1 Listed Leeds Kirkgate Market, providing a full range of structural engineering services on the project.

In 2015 and 2016 we established regional offices in Manchester and London respectively.

2018 – 2022

In 2018 we landed one of our largest schemes, The Glass Works in Barnsley, designing the foundations and steel frames for four key buildings within a 125,000 sq ft retail, cafe and restaurant hub.

In 2019 Neil Brown joined as Director to spearhead our presence in the Northwest. We further expanded our footprint in 2020 with a new office in Sheffield and, in 2022, appointed Neil Barrett as Director of our London operations.

Since 2020 we have been a climate-positive business, working with Earthly to support the fight against climate change.

When COVID-19 hit the world in 2020, we were quickly appointed onto the fast-track conversion of an existing ward at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary into a dedicated, self-contained patient facility. Our skills, diligence and collaborative approach helped the construction team deliver the scheme in just three months, ahead of the anticipated winter surge of patients.

At the end of 2021, the Leeds board of directors welcomed Paul Gill and Gareth Shepherd positioning us for further business development and growth.

In 2022, we were recognised as an ICE Approved Employer, helping us better support our young talent along the route towards professional status.

2023 – 2025

In 2023, we achieved BS EN ISO 19650 building information management certification, endorsing our commitment to BIM and the team’s understanding, capability and capacity to deliver BIM projects.

In 2024 we added to our list of titles ‘SME of the Year’ in the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire & Humber regional awards, awarded to exemplar small businesses that model the eight Constructing Excellence principles of procurement, innovation, collaboration, culture, productivity, client satisfaction, HS&W and digital. We were able to demonstrate solid ten year growth in excess of 20% year-on-year, providing a reliable predictor of our future target of £10m turnover by 2030.

To further develop business, in 2025, we were joined by Jonathan Trickett as regional director based in Sheffield.  Jonathan’s appointment is the latest stage in our journey to further cement Adept as a trusted delivery partner for professional civil and structural engineering services throughout the UK.
