Roles at ADEPT

I am a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer managing a team of Qualified Structural Engineers in the Leeds office and working mainly in the commercial, healthcare, leisure and residential sectors.

My key responsibilities are design, planning workload, technical specifications, checking drawings and calculations, and overseeing the delivery of our design proposals. I am most inspired by the hands-on technical aspects of designing for specific scenarios and enjoy the satisfaction that comes from seeing the finished development once the works are completed.

I am Adept’s Approved Certifier for Design of Structure under the Scottish Government’s Building Standards Certification Register.

In my role as Associate Director, I am the nominated mentor for apprentices early in their journey towards membership of the Institute of Civil Engineers. I help them ensure that the variety within their work portfolio is fulfilling their Initial Professional Development requirements. I have been working alongside one of our graduate engineers to help establish ambitious sustainability targets for our company processes, including achieving Net-Zero status.

I particularly enjoyed working on The Glassworks in Barnsley, as it was a very large and technically challenging scheme. I also found it inspiring to work with such a great team.

When not working

Outside work I enjoy tinkering with my guitars, amps and effects and playing music.
I used to play regularly with bands, but I found that rehearsals and performing could be time-consuming and it is more relaxing to play when I feel like it.

I also used to cycle with a club all day most Sundays which, although very enjoyable, did take up a large proportion of my weekend time. Although I am still out on my bike most weeks, these days I prefer to use it for fresh air and to keep fit.
