Roles at ADEPT

I am a Civil and Structural Engineer leading a team of Engineers and Technicians of varying levels of experience, including an apprentice.

As Director, my main responsibilities are design, planning workload, checking output reports, bidding for new work, client development and the monitoring of project cost efficiencies.

My workload is primarily large-scale residential and retail projects for major supermarkets such as Asda and Sainsburys. This includes the refurbishment of existing stores, construction of new store extensions and associated petrol stations, and more recently, the design for the more sustainable EV charging stations.

Over the last few years, I have been focusing on designing for greater efficiencies on site, especially minimising material use on large-scale projects. Often my biggest design challenge is finding the most practical way to reduce Client costs on site while still achieving compliance to current design codes. I listen carefully to my Client’s priorities and work closely with them to achieve the most cost-effective solution for each individual scheme.

My favourite part of a project is the initial stage. I thrive at the feasibility and concept stages when we are reviewing drawings, thinking about every potential outcome, and working out the best design solutions.

When not working

I like to keep up my health and fitness through running and other outdoor activities. Family life with a growing teenager helps to keep me very busy too.

I love the atmosphere of competing in mass outdoor sporting events, such as Total Warrior/ Tough Mudder in which I have represented Adept. As a company we like to enter teams whenever possible, as it is a fun way to be involved in a healthy team activity to build morale and team spirit.

I used to enjoy playing badminton to a decent standard but unfortunately a niggling injury no longer permits that. Rugby League is another passion and I always try to find time to follow matches when the season is underway.
