Project Brief

We were approached to conduct a structural survey of a fire-damaged unit which formed the basis of expert advice provided to the client and their insurers. As a result, we were asked to carry out the structural and civil design for a replacement warehouse. The new building consisted of a single-storey portal warehouse construction, subdivided into six separate units.

Solution

As lead on the ground works, we organised a full site investigation and were able to prove the viability of, and design, traditional pad foundations bearing into the natural sub soils, which saved on costs and carbon. We re-used demolition material from the existing building which was crushed on site down to stone hardcore material and used under a new ground-bearing concrete slab and service yard slabs. This saved further time and cost by avoiding importing stone material and also helped reduce carbon.

The project was completed efficiently and within a short timeframe due to the need to urgently return the building to operational status for the client and tenants.
