Project Brief

The development delivered 96 high specification, self-contained studio apartments with range of facilities including a lounge, gym, cinema room and study area. Adept worked in collaboration with Brewster Bye architects and YPP Invesments  on this £12m purpose-built student accommodation and retail development in the city centre of Leeds.

Solution

The scheme involves the demolition of the existing two storey nightclub and replacement with a part six, part eight storey new build student residential development.

The new construction involved extending the existing basements with both piled wall and reinforced concrete wall construction.

The new building frame is reinforced concrete with a flat slab floor design to give maximum clear headroom space within the storey height constraints.

Foundations were piled to suitable bed rock. The structural frame was designed using 3D modelling software which allowed for an accurate assessment of wind loading and vertical load paths to provide an efficiently designed structure.

Drawings were also produced from a 3D structure model, allowing for greater co-ordination which architectural and service engineer drawings. The design carefully considers the constrained urban nature of the site and the adjacent hotel development. Adept used in-house point cloud surveying to provide independent monitoring of the adjacent listed building for the client during foundation works.
