TRAINING SCHEME HELPS ENGINEER SUCCESSFUL CAREERS

Adept are playing a key role in training the next generation of engineers, by appointing two new interns and an apprentice.

Farah Khoury from Leeds University and Billy Kelham from Coventry University are both second year MEng Civil Engineering students. They will now support Adept’s team of 24 for up to a year, working on a range of high profile structural and civil engineering projects across the North of England.

Farah is the company’s first female intern and she recently launched Leeds University’s Student Women’s Engineering Society, which aims to strengthen the link between female students and women already working in the industry, as well as maximising the employability credentials of female students when they graduate.

Brandon Baldwin also joins the company as an apprentice after studying for his A-levels. As part of his training, he will spend one day a week at Leeds College of Building where he will study for a BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Civil Engineering. Brandon’s appointment means the company has now recruited 11 under-graduates and apprentices since 2007.

In our experience, combining education with genuine work experience continually proves to be a successful formula and offers a fantastic route into the industry.

“We’re delighted to welcome Farah, Billy and Brandon to the team and there’s no doubt that all three have promising careers ahead of them.”

Billy says: “This is a fantastic opportunity to work with experienced civil engineers on live projects, from inception right through to completion. I’m learning and developing my skills every day that I’m here and there’s no doubt it will prove hugely valuable when I return to university and complete my third year.”
